Swarm Intelligence in 3D Virtual Worlds

This project is investigating the use of swarm intelligence as the agent model in a design environment. It aims to replace the cognitive agent model implemented on the virtual world platform Active Worlds by Maher et al with a swarm based agent model. The existing agent model supports the autonomous behaviour of objects existing in the virutal world. When each 3D object has agency, the virtual world is composed of design agents in the sense that the world is designed and each object in the world can sense the world and respond by adapting the designed world. The purpose of the re-implementation is to see if the agent model can be simplified while still allowing societies to adapt the designed world in an intelligent manner.
